Walking With My Dad

The past few nights, my dad and I have been taking nighttime walks together.  We walk up and down our neighbors 1/2 mile lane, and talk about whatever it is that we want to talk about.  I enjoy this time with my dad because I don't have to hide anything.  I can just be myself, and not worry about being judged by anyone, it is just me and him.  We talk about what annoys us, what we both did during the day, and what we plan on doing the next day or the next week.
My dad and I have never been close, only in the past year have we actually formed a stable relationship.  My dad and I are very similar, we both have a low tolerance of people, we get annoyed easily and we both keep our feelings bottled up inside. My friends joke that I am the "tin man" because they don't think I have a heart because I don't show my emotions.  Whenever I go on a walk with my dad, I don't have to hide my emotions, I can let them out.  I can vent about whatever it is that is bothering me, and I know that all my dad is going to do is tell me to calm down, which I won't.  These walks with my dad have brought us closer together, and I hope that we can stay as close as we are now.

  1. I understand ya Shelby. My dad and I are not close at all. At this point I dont think we ever will. My dad is an alcoholic and when he drinks he goes mad. Therefore, we don't see eye to eye. I have my boyfriends dad who serves as father to me or a couple of my friends' dads. I wish my father and I could someday communicate the way you and your father do today, but time is nearing to where I am out on my own. I am very happy that you and your father can communicate!
